Polyurethane-based liquid membranes are waterproof coatings used in roof insulation. It is one of the most preferred materials in the construction industry due to its waterproof and durable structure. It is possible to encounter polyurethane-based liquid membrane at many points of the structure.
What is Polyurethane Based Liquid Membrane?
Polyurethane-based liquid membranes are insulation materials made of single-component polyurethane containing many solids. It can be used safely on flat roofs with its durable, elastic and waterproof structure. Polyurethane liquid membranes, which protect structures in the long term, are waterproof even under the toughest conditions.
Polyurethane-based waterproofing materials are durable and long-lasting. It provides high performance. Polyurethane waterproofing materials used on roofs, terraces and balconies can serve in different areas.
What are the Product Features of Polyurethane Liquid Membrane?
Polyurethane-based waterproofing materials are durable and long-lasting. The high performance polyurethane liquid membrane is water-resistant. It is resistant to UV rays. It has high hydrophobicity. Thanks to its durable structure, it does not fade when exposed to sunlight. They are elastomeric materials that provide good chemical and mechanical resistance.
Advantages of Using Polyurethane Liquid Membrane
There are many advantages of using a polyurethane liquid membrane.
- Easy, fast and trouble-free application
- Long durability
- Excellent heat resistance
- Wear resistant
- Resistant to chemical materials
- Resistance to UV rays and bad weather conditions
- Resistant to alkaline cleaners and fuels
- Resistant to freezing temperature
- Strong adhesion
- Aesthetic look
- Sealing
- Flexibility
- Non-softening structure
- Breathability (Liquid membrane must breathe in order for the moisture inside the building to escape freely)
Polyurethane Liquid Membrane Application Areas
Polyurethane liquid membrane can be applied to various fields. Polyurethane-based liquid membrane can be used on terraces, roofs, balconies and gutters and wet areas. Polyurethane liquid membrane is used indoors and outdoors as a floor covering material on concrete and cement-based surfaces. In addition, polyurethane waterproofing materials are preferred for filling the gaps and cracks that occur on the floors or walls of structures such as tunnels, bridges and concrete walls.
- Waterproofing of the roof
- Stadium stand
- Water / waste water treatment plants
- Foundation walls
- Bridge
- Porches
Polyurethane Liquid Membrane Application Method
The polyurethane liquid membrane is waterresistant. For this reason, it can be preferred on flat roofs without slopes. It can be easily applied to difficult areas (eg. corners, edges, etc.). Thanks to its excellent mechanical strength, an elastic structure is obtained. To apply the polyurethane liquid membrane, the roof surface must first be thoroughly cleaned.
The polyurethane liquid membrane is applied in two layers with the help of a brush or roller. In the first stage, a polyurethane primer coat is applied to the surface. This primer acts as an adhesion coat. The first layer is applied with a roller or brush approximately 2-3 hours after the primer layer. It is then left to dry for 8 hours before applying the topcoats. The time between each coat should not exceed 24 hours. It is necessary to apply the second layer diagonally.
